A referral is not required for patients with Medicaid. However, many HMO plans do require a referral from your primary care doctor to ensure the specialist you are seeing is appropriate for you and your condition. Ask your insurance provider if a referral is necessary or call our office for more information.

Before seeing a Medical specialist you should talk to your GP who will advise on whether specialist care is appropriate and what type of specialist care is relevant. Your GP and Specialist work hand in hand in providing you with continuity of care.

During your initial visit, the doctor will discuss the relevant test/s or procedure you may require regarding your medical condition. They may do a physical examination and ask you relevant questions to gain a history and devise a medical plan with regards to your requirements. If further tests are needed then it will be discussed with you and when the results are collected and a diagnosis is reached the appropriate treatment will be discussed.
